Should I use free blog host or get my own hosted blog on my own domain

Should I use free blog host or get my own hosted blog on my own domain?

This is a typical question which will be asked by most of the bloggers starting out and attempting to make a decision on which blogging platform. I think this is depending on you, whether you are just blogging for fun, or you want to blog for making money online, or you simple like domain.com and so on.

You Will Making More Money Online If You Use Own Domain Blog

As you may be already know, if you use own hosted blog on your own domain, without doubt that you can make more money online instead of using free blog host like blogger.com. This is because many advertisers willing to pay higher amount of advertisement for own domain blog, some of them refuse to accept your offers if you use free blog hosting.

Free Blog Hosting Like Blogger.com Is Recommended

If you want to make money online using free blog hosting, I strongly suggest you use Blogger.com because this free blog host is the most acceptable by advertisers so far compare with others, other reason may be blogger.com blog can easily get indexed in Google.com.

    may i ask,
is it possible to buy a domain name,
buy domain only, but still hosted on Blogger

i want a real domain name, not a redirect.

    please help

  2. Eric says:

    @Julia

Yes, you can do that. After buy domain name, then go to your blogspot setting, click “publishing” subtab, then click “custom domain” to configure something, then is OK.

I have never try this before, I know from this way you can do that.

  3. julia says:

ok, but how much is your domain

    where did u buy it?

    im planning to buy:

    julia-aquino.info
    or
    julia-aquino.net

    bcoz .com is too pricy

  4. Eric says:

Last time I purchased from domainrightnow.com, about $7 something for .com (.net and .info you gonna check the price, I think it is difference), but I heard people say got $5 something ones. Anyway, I think $7 is quite cheap already.

If you want to use your blog to make money, I suggest you using .com , .net is still ok, but .info I don’t suggest. But if you never think to make money using your blog, then choose whatever you like.

on February i will buy my domain!
i heard $9 in godaddy? it is trustworthy?
after i buy a domain does the suddomain like blog.julia.com is another $9 ?

  6. Eric says:

This price quite OK. If you want to create subdomain of julia.com like julia.com/blog, you do not need to pay another $9.

You can create subdomain after you buy web hosting, this can be done in the control panel of web hosting. Normally is julia.com/cpanel

If you cannot catch what I’m trying to say, you can ask me again. :)

  7. julia says:

i already own 4 domains now .com domain is cheap at godaddy normally they are priced $10 each but there are discounts available i got these for 6.99 each!

  8. Eric says:

Congratulation to you Julia. Finally you know how to create blog using own domain. I’m so happy to hear you from this. :)

  9. Elly says:

outgoing space for buddy. trust to get more from your side :)

  11. I think with a good theme background on wordpress you can make it better than the blogger. Just upgrade to a higher version and you are fine. I prefer wordpress because 1)You know who is commenting you. Each comment you receive is coming together with the IP of the person who send it to you and you can send complains for spammers to their ISP. 2)Wordpress is more flexible, more professional and can be more approachable for the readers. It is more straightforward. Anyway they are both good. It depends what do u prefer. I stick on wordpress.

    Keep up the good job…

  12. I think that getting your own domain is more appropriate eventhough you have to pay a certain price. But if you don’t want to lose your dollars yet, then aybe a free blog host will work well enough for you. Apart form this howver, I also agree with the post that you should consider first your reasons for blogging and the way you plan to run your own site. After all, if you have your own domain, you are more ‘flexible’, since truth be told, advertisers chooses someone with their own domain than the ones using a free blog host.

  13. Enjoyed your post. I agreed with most of what you said and I’m sure it will be of help to others.

I definitely found it easier to gte advertising after hosting on my own domain instead of using blogspot – I guess it depends on what you want to do with your blog. If it’s just for fun, I’d suggest sticking with blogspot as it’s free and it’s indexed quickly as it’s owned by google.

  15. it a very important tips for me. I will use this my other domain… AllTimeBD.com

  18. My blog is already hosted at http://kidsformal.blogspot.com/. I am thinking of moving it to a sub-domain blog.kidsformal.com or on my own website kidsformal.com/blog. The purpose my blog is to improve page rank and to generate more traffic for our primary site, kidsformal.com. Which way would better serve my purpose? Thank you very much – Mike

Hi Kids Formal Page, I suggest you use kidsformal.com/blog

Thanks for the post! I think I will register a custom domain for my Video Game Review Blog

Eric do you think it will be easier to stay on Blogger or import it to a WordPress site with a theme?

  21. Eric says:

Hi Andrew, I suggest you import it to a WordPress site with a theme.

  22. Jr Blogger says:

Last time I purchased a domain from icanregistry.com for my blog. I think it better to get your own domain if you are going to use your blog to make money.

  23. Nicole says:

I am starting a blog and still have a lot of questions. But the one that I want to ask now is ” If I use a free blog site do I need to purchase a domain name?”

  24. jamie jones says:

I hope to add my own blog to my site as well.. Thanks for the info..

  25. I think in the long haul, i’d go with a domain. It’s better to own your own if you are really serious and want to develop a web destination. Free is ok, but owning is better.
