If want to save the post before adding the custom field, seemingly we do double works and it is very time consuming if we have many posts want to publish. If like that, i prefer the previous version which we do need to do that. I personally think that this is still a bug. Very annoying. Finally, I found <a href="http://wordpress.org/support/topic/163769" rel="nofollow">a workaround for this bug</a>: save the post before adding any custom fields. Worked for me.
